He said that regular incidents of largescale burning of garbage were brought to the notice, after which this action was taken. Rai said that Delhi's air quality is slowly deteriorating. But agencies are also not taking it seriously. Environmental norms are not being followed. Lots of garbage are being burnt. He said that instructions have been issued to impose a ﬁne of Rs 1 crore on the North Delhi Municipal Corporation for controlling the burning of garbage in the area. According to meteorological officials, there has been a partial reduction in pollution levels in Delhi on Friday, due to favourable speed of air which helped pollutants spread widely. A bench, headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde, described the situation as an “emergency”, requiring the top court to step in before the problem of bad air and smog assumes unmanageable proportion. “We are concerned that citizens of Delhi and NCR should be able to breathe fresh air…good clean air. This court will not be in session for nine days after today and we don't want people in Delhi-NCR to suffer because of stubble burning,” observed the bench. He also laid the foundation stones for 16 National Highways projects with a total length of 1,411 km worth Rs 15,592 crore in Andhra Pradesh. The event was presided over by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Union Ministers of State Gen (Retd) Dr V K Singh and G Kishan Reddy, Ministers from the State, Members of Parliaments, MLAs and senior officers from the Centre and the State were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari said that the length of National Highways in Andhra Pradesh before May 2014 was 4,193 km, which has now increased to 6,860 km. Continued on Page 5 Court admits Krishna Janmabhoomi plea Mathura: A local court in Mathura on Friday admitted a plea that seeks to remove a mosque adjacent to the Krishna Janmabhoomi. The court of district judge Sadhna Rani Thakur has fixed November 18 as the next date of hearing in the case. Earlier in October, a civil court in Mathura had dismissed a plea seeking order to remove the Shahi Idgah Mosque. The petitioner had alleged that it was built over Krishna Janmabhoomi. Mathura is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The mosque in question was built in the 17th century. According to petitioners, it was built at the birthplace of Lord Krishna, within MATHURA TEMPLE LITIGATION the 13-acre premises of the Katra Keshav Dev temple. Since the November 2019 Supreme Court verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case, the clamour has been growing to remove mosques that are adjacent to prominent temples in the country like the Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura and the Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi. A five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court headed by then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had ruled that the disputed land in Ayodhya be given for construction of a temple, while Muslims would get an alternate plot elsewhere in the Uttar Pradesh town. Stubble burning impact on Delhi air to be lesser: CPCB New Delhi: Amid the massive spike in air pollution in Delhi and its surroundings, the CPCB on Friday claimed that stubble burning in Punjab, Haryana and other neighbouring regions may not contribute much to city's deteriorating air quality this year. Continued on Page 5 New Delhi: Shoyeb Aftab has bagged All India Rank (AIR) 1 in NEET 2020 result announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on its website ntaneet.nic.in. Shoyeb Aftab has secured full 720 out of the total 720 marks in the medical entrance exam. The NEET 2020 topper, 18year-old Shoyeb created a record by securing 100 percent marks and is also the first student from Odisha to top NEET. Shoyeb took coaching from an institute in Kota, Rajasthan. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) under- Shoyeb Aftab created history by securing a full 100 percent in the exam. He is also the ﬁrst to top the exam from Odisha graduate 2020 exam was conducted in two phases. More than 14.37 lakh medical aspirants took the exam that was conducted following the COVID-19 guidelines. As many as 15.97 lakh candidates regis- tered for NEET UG 2020 of which 85-90 percent appeared in Phase 1 that was conducted on September 13. The Phase 2 exam was conducted on October 14 after the Supreme Court of India gave its approval to hold the exam for candidates who missed medical entrance test due to COVID-19 or were stuck in containment zones. As many as 13,67,032 students appeared in the phase 1 exam, while phase 2 saw 290 students taking the entrance test. Students who have qualified the exam will now be called for NEET 2020 counselling.
