They have requested me to stand as their legal counsel, but the administration is not allowing me to meet them," she told reporters. Continued on Page 5 Priyanka seeks justice for Hathras victim New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday attended a prayer meet at the Valmiki temple in Delhi for the 19year-old Dalit girl who was allegedly gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras. The woman died earlier this week. The UP police are accused by the family of forcing the cremation of the woman in the dead of the night. District officials contended that they had consent from the woman’s family, but the way the developments took place raised questions over the conduct of the administration and law enforcement. “We have come here to offer our condolences, but more than that we are all here to ensure that the family and our sister get justice.” Continued on Page 5 POLL EXPENDITURE CRITERIA 290 ULBs candidates disqualified HANS NEWS SERVICE Hyderabad: As many as 293 candidates, who contested in the last municipal elections from the poll-bound Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporations (GHMC), Warangal and Khammam Municipal Corporations, were barred from ﬁghting the forthcoming Urban Local Body elections in the above municipalities as they failed to submit Highest number of 117 candidates from GHMC the details of ﬁnal returns of the election expenditure incurred in the last polls. All the 290 plus candidates have been disqualiﬁed from contesting the elections up to June 28, 2022. The State Elections Commission (SEC), the official agency of the conduct of the local body elections, has disclosed that the highest number of 117 candidates from GHMC have been disqualiﬁed from the contest of the elections for not furnishing the details of their poll expenditure in the previous elections held on 2015 and 2016. An SEC official said that in the 45 ward alone, the highest number of 18 candidates who had failed to submit the details of expenditure incurred in the GHMC elections. Ten contestants from 18 wards out of 150 wards in Greater Hyderabad limits also did not furnish the expenditure details. In the Greater Warangal Corporation, 83 candidates have been disqualified from contesting the elections, officials said that almost all the 58 wards in the Corporation had reported that at least one candidate was barred from contesting elections again. Continued on Page 5 Covid strikes Trumps, poll campaign goes awry New York: After belittling precautionary measures against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, US President Donald Trump has tested positive for the virulent disease just 32 days ahead of the November 3 election that will determine his future, throwing his campaign and the world into a vortex of uncertainty. Taking to Twitter late on Thursday night, Trump said: "Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for Covid-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this together." Also in a tweet shortly, the First Lady said: "As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for Covid-19. We are feeling good and I have postponed all up- coming engagements. "Please be sure you are staying safe and we will all get through this together." The Covid-19 infection is a personal and political blow to Trump who had shown disdain for many of the precautions prescribed by health authorities to ﬁght the pandemic. It could shake the conﬁdence of his hardcore supporters who had followed his example by not wearing masks and questioning the health codes. Following the development, the White House sent out a revised press schedule listing only "a phone call on Covid-19 support to vulnerable seniors" for Friday, adding that several events have been cancelled, including a fundraiser in Washington and a campaign rally in Florida. It is a diﬀerent matter that most of them later migrated to the ruling party the party has ﬁnalised the name of the candidate. It is being speculated that MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy is likely to be official candidate. Election notiﬁcation would be re- leased in the month of January or February said the senior leader of the TRS party. Opposition parties are likely to support the candidature of TJS party chief M Kodan- daram in case he decides to ﬁle the nomination. The focus of all parties is on Khammam district because in the last assembly elections TRS had won only one seat out of ten constituencies. It is a different matter that most of them later migrated to TRS. Rani Rudrama Devi, journalist-turned-politician, has also decided to try her luck on behalf of the Yuva Telangana Party. Once the ruling party and the opposition parties announce the names of the candidates, the political heat is likely to pick up in the district.
