He was 91. Swarup, the doyen of Indian radio astronomy, was the founding director of the NCRA, which is part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). "National Centre for Rdio Astronomy (NCRA) with a very heavy heart, announces that our renowned scientist, great radio astronomer Prof. Govind Swarup passed away on Monday 9 pm at a private hospital following illness," the NCRA said. Born in 1929, Swarup was one of the pioneers of radio astronomy in India, it said. Russian vaccine released for public Moscow (IANS): In some good news for millions living in hope for a Covid-19 vaccine shot, the Russian Health Ministry said on Tuesday that the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine has been produced for civilian circulation. The supplies of the medication to the Russian regions are expected soon, the Health Ministry told reporters, reports Tass news agency. "The first batch of the vaccine for preventing the novel coronavirus infection, Gam-COVID-Vac (Sputnik V) developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Health Ministry passed the required quality tests and was produced for civilian circulation. "In the near future, the supplies of the first batches of the vaccine to the regions are expected," the ministry said. Hyderabad: The Telangana Assembly on Tuesday passed a unanimous resolution demanding the Centre to confer the highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ on former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao moved a resolution urging the Centre not only to confer ‘Bharat Ratna’ to PV Narasimha Rao but also name the Hyderabad Central University after ‘Telangana Muddu Bidda’. He also urged the Speaker to install a portrait of PV in the Assembly premises. Recalling the services rendered by PV to the na- tion in different capacities, including as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Union minister, seniormost Congress leader and Prime Minister, he said PV was instrumental in bringing economic reforms which helped India move on the growth trajectory at a fast pace. The creation of new employment opportunities and increased foreign direct investments was the result of PV's economic initiatives, he said. KCR said it was because of PV’s vision India could become a global destination for investments. He said that even though PV was from a family of landlords, China aggression on border New Delhi (PTI): Chinese troops carried rods, spears, clubs and pole weapons called 'Guandao' in aggressively trying to close in on an Indian position in Mukhpari area of Rezang-La ridgeline in eastern Ladakh on Monday evening, government sources said on Tuesday. As tension escalated at the Line of Actual Control(LAC), the sources said around 50-60 soldiers of Chinese People's Liberation Army(PLA) approached the Indian post in the southern bank of Pangon lake area at around 6 PM but the Indian Army personnel posted there strongly confronted them, forcing their retreat. It may be recalled that the Chinese troops had mounted a savage attack on Indian sol- China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers approached towards Indian post near Mukhpari peak at about 6 pm on Monday diers with stones, nail-studded sticks, iron rods and clubs during the Galwan Valley clashes in eastern Ladakh on June 15 in which 20 Indian Army personnel were killed. The government sources said the Chinese army may have planned to engage Indian troops on Monday evening in a way similar to the clashes in Galwan Valley as its soldiers were carrying rods, spears, clubs and 'Guandao'. Guandao is a type of Chinese pole weapon that is used in some forms of Chinese martial arts. It has a blade mounted atop a long wooden pole. Continued on Page 5 NCB arrests Rhea Chakraborty Mumbai (IANS): After days of intense speculation and three days of tough grilling, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday arrested Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty in connection with its ongoing probe to unravel the drugs nexus in the film industry, officials said. Rhea has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for her alleged role in the drugs angle that has emerged during investigation into the June 14 death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Rhea, who has all along pleaded innocence, was quickly whisked away for a mandatory medical test at the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation's LTMG Sion Hospital. She is likely to be presented by the NCB before a court for her remand, while her legal team prepares to get her bailed out. Her much-anticipated arrest came a day after Rhea took time out -- at the height of the NCB interrogation sessions -- to hit back at the late actor's family by lodging a police complaint against Sushant's sister Priyanka Singh and Dr Tarun Kumar of RML Hospital in New Delhi and others, alleging forged medical prescriptions. Popular Telugu actor passes away HANS NEWS SERVICE Amaravati: Popular Telugu actor Jaya Prakash Reddy passed away on Tuesday at his residence in Guntur. The actor suffered cardiac arrest. He was 74 and diabetic. The villain turned comedian Jaya Prakash Reddy was not only a versatile thespian but also a great theatre artiste. Reddy was popular for his role in ﬁlms like Samarasimha Reddy, Preminchukundam Raa, Narasimha Naidu, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, Julayi, Ready, Kick, Jayam Manadera, Jamba Lakadi Pamba, Avunu Valliddaru Ishtapaddaru, Jaya Prakash Reddy Kabaddi Kabbadi, Evadi Gola Vadidi and Kithakithalu. Initially, the actor gained popularity for villainous roles, and later in his career, he appeared in several comic roles. Starting off with serious roles as a villain in movies, Reddy later transitioned into a highly successful comedian as well. Officials indicated that the new SEC will begin exercise soon for the conduct of elections. Parthasarathy retired from the services after attaining superannuation in the rank of Principal Secretary in April this year. During his long stint as the Secretary in the State Agriculture department, he made a mark by reforming the Agriculture sector in Telangana. He was considered as one of the important officials in the government think tank. The appointment of Parthasarathy as the SEC assumed political significance following impending elections to three big municipal corporations in the state.
