London: There was some lighthearted moments at the UK court on Friday when Judge Emma Arbuthnot hearing the second bail plea of Nirav Modi asked the prosecution whether the fugitive diamantaire would be lodged in the same jail cell along with Vijay Mallya if he is also extradited to India. The 48-year-old diamond merchant is wanted in India for alleged "high value and sophisticated" fraud and money laundering amounting to $2 billion. At the very start of the hearing, Westminster Magistrates Court Chief Magistrate Arbuthnot said she was getting a sense of "deja vu", in reference to her having ordered the extradition of Mallya in December last year. "Do we know which part of India he [Nirav] is being sought in," the judge asked, to try and establish which jail Nirav Modi is likely to be held in. She was told by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), arguing on behalf of the Indian government, that it would be an extradition to Mumbai and that he may in fact be held in the same Arthur Road Jail as that prepared for liquor tycoon Mallya, to which the judge said in a lighter vein that it could even be the same cell as we know "there is space" from the previous video submitted during the Mallya extradition HIGHLIGHTS • The judge asked where Nirav is likely to be lodged in India if extradited • The CPS replied that he would be extradited to Mumbai and may even be held at the same Mumbai jail prepared for Mallya • Hearing this, the judge said in a lighter vein that it could even be the same cell! trial. India has informed the UK court that Mallya will be lodged in one of the high security barracks located in a two-storey building inside the prison complex. Authorities at the Arthur Road prison in Mumbai have kept a high security cell ready for Mallya if he is extradited from UK in connection with loan default cases against him in India. The police said the explosion occurred inside a private car at Tethar area of the highway near Bannihal town around 10.30 am, destroying the vehicle. "The explosion appears to have been caused by a gas cylinder inside the car but this is based on preliminary examination of the car's wreckage," a police officer said. Hyderabad: While the ruling TRS has set the target of winning 16 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the ensuing elections, the Congress and BJP adopted ‘Mission 5’ strategy to win at least five seats each in the crucial Parliament elections. The two parties have already identified five potential Lok Sabha seats where the respective leaderships strongly believe that they have 100 per cent chances of winning the polls. The Congress leadership, which has been fighting against all odds in the wake of mass exodus of party MLAs and senior leaders into the TRS, has been concentrating all its efforts on Chevella, Bhongir, Nalgonda, Khammam and Malkajgiri seats. It has fielded senior leaders TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy in Nalgonda, TPCC working president A Revanth Reddy in Malkajgiri, senior leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy in Bhongir, Renuka Chowdary in Khammam and sitting MP K Vishweshwar Reddy in Chevella. Congress leaders say that the party high command has instructed the Telangana Congress leadership to ensure the victory of the party at least in five LS seats. “Senior most leaders in the AICC are watching closely the poll campaign taken up by the five candidates and giving necessary tips to counter the TRS. The leaders are asked to take up extensive campaign on NYAY (Nyuntam Aay Yojana)a minimum income guarantee scheme announced as part of the party poll promises by Con- BJP Malkajgiri: Ramachander Rao Secunderabad: Kishan Reddy Nizamabad: Dharmapuri Arvind Nagarkurnool: Bangaru Shruthi Mahbubnagar: DK Aruna gress president Rahul Gandhi,” a senior leader said. The Congress will launch an intensified campaign on the scheme in the last week of the campaign in Telangana. Once the AICC president releases the party manifesto, some more important promises to be made by the party will be added in the intensified campaign. “Despite the party is facing difficult time with the spate of defections to the TRS, the AICC is extending enough support to the contestants,” the leader said, adding that the Congress is still maintaining strong hold on these five segments. Harping on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity, the Telangana BJP unit is going aggressive in the Lok Sabha elections as the saffron party failed to win at least five seats in the just concluded Assembly elections. It could win only a single seat as against five in the 2014 elections. The BJP has set a target to win Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat, from where senior leader N Ramachander Rao is contesting, Secunderabad (G Kishan Reddy), Nizamabad (D Arvind), Nagarkurnool (Bangaru Shruthi) and Mahbubnagar (DK Aruna). The state leadership is confident that the BJP has bright chances to win Malkajgiri and Secunderabad seats as the party has strong cadre network. Arvind is working hard in Nizamabad, considered the fortress of sitting TRS MP K Kavitha, who targeted to win the seat for the second consecutive time by a margin of 5 lakh votes. Earlier this month, Swaraj had put out an appeal on Twitter after four Indians were killed in the Ethiopian Airlines crash. "I am trying to reach the family of Shikha Garg who has unfortunately died in the air crash. I have tried her husband's number many times. Please help me reach her family," the minister had tweeted. Further details of the incident and the couple were not immediately known. India happy with surgical strike, not Cong: Modi New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the whole country was happy with India's bombing of the terrorist camp in Pakistan but not the Congress and also the terrorists. "The Indian armed forces for the first time killed the terrorists in their own territory. While the whole world stood by India, the Congress family have lost their sleep," Modi told an election rally here in Assam's Dibrugarh district. "Recently our scientists made significant achievements in space technology and we became the fourth nation to have such technology," he went on. "But the Congress leaders were in tears. Today India is walking together with the superpowers of the world and the Con- Prime Minister Narendra Modi gestures as he speaks during an election rally, ahead of Lok Sabha polls, at Aalo, in West Siang district on Saturday gress is worried," he said. "Now you have to decide whether you want a strong government or a government run by people stained (by allegations of corruption)," he said. Showering appreciation for the Moran community, the Prime Minister said that India cannot strengthen itself unless Assam was strengthened. Modi also slammed the earlier Congress government for what he said was its apathy towards the tribals in the tea community. "They do not like this chowkidar but they also don't like the chaiwala. They don't even like to look into the eyes of the chaiwala. Only this chaiwala can understand the pain of the chaiwala," he said. He was clearly referring to some of the flagship schemes launched by the BJP government in Assam for the benefit of the tea tribes. The Prime Minister alleged that various development projects got delayed when the Congress ruled Assam. "It is our government that has completed many of the long-delayed projects." The Prime Minister slammed the Congress for the Assam Accord and said that his government was working to ensure its implementation. "Our government is also seriously considering a proposal to grant ST status to six communities of Assam. However, in doing so we will ensure that none of the existing tribals are affected," he added.
