Continued on Page 15 SC: Cars causing more pollution than crackers New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked why firecrackers were being singled out for rising pollution levels when automobiles caused much more pollution. It asked the Centre to apprise it with a comparative study of the two. Linking the plea for a ban on the manufacture, sale and bursting of firecrackers across the country with Article 19 (1)(g) guaranteeing the right to occupation, trade or business, a bench headed by Justice SA Bobde flagged the issue of loss of jobs if there was a clampdown on the firecracker manufacturing industry. Justice Bobde said the issue had not been examined on the touchstone of Article 19 (1)(g) of the Constitution. Tirupati: Tirupati, the abode of Lord Venkateswara, has become the sentiment for political leaders to kick-start important events. Telugu Desam Party is going to launch its election campaign from Tirupati. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be visiting the pilgrim city on March 16 and seek blessings of Lord Venkateswara before launching the election campaign. Naidu attaches high level of sentiment since it was here at the foothills where he survived a massive landmine blast. Naidu will address a public meeting at SV University’s Tarakarama Stadium at 1 pm, according to TDP district president Pulivarthy Nani. Even TDP founder president NT Rama Rao had a strong sentiment attached to Tirupati since he too used to launch his campaign after offering prayers to the Lord of Seven Hills. He had also held the ﬁrst Mahanadu of TDP here. During the Tirupati visit, Naidu is likely to meet people of various sections, including intellectuals and neutrals. The party leaders rushed to Vijayawada on Tuesday to discuss with party high command on the visit. He is likely to join YSR Congress on Wednesday. Though noted industrialist Dasari Jairamesh joined YSR Congress recently, he is not interested to enter election fray. The political circles in Krishna district believe that he might be candidate of YSR Congress for Vijayawada parliament seat. But he is keen about his brother Dasari Balavardhana Rao’s candidature for the Gannavaram Assembly seat. During last elections, Potluri Vara Prasad, who was very close to former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, expressed interest to contest from Vijayawada parliament seat. But he withdrew his election plans due to internal disputes with YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Subsequently, YSR Congress gave ticket to industrialist Koneru Rajendraprasad in the last minute. Since the defeat of Rajendraprasad in the last parliament elections, no YSR Congress leader claimed to be in-charge of the Vijayawada parliamentary constituency. Continued on Page 15 Modi to address 4 poll meets in TS HANS NEWS SERVICE Hyderabad: With an intention to take the political campaign to a new high, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address four public meetings in Telangana as part of BJP’s campaign for the ensuing Parliament elections. Addressing media here on Tuesday, Telangana BJP president Dr K Laxman said that one of the four meetings of the prime minister will be held in March. Besides, party chief Amit Shah will address six public meetings and Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and others will participate in the party campaign in the State. Laxman said the process of identifying potential candidates has begun and BJP will contest alone in all the 17 parliament seats in the state. The Telangana party core committee meeting will be held on March 14 and the names of the candidates will be submitted to the party’s parliamentary board. The board will announce the list of contestants, he said. With the lone exception of TDP, all other parties have remained with the NDA and new parties have joined hands with it. And, BJP is all set to win in more than 300 seats in the ensuing parlia- mentary elections to form the government at the Centre on its own, he said. Dismissing the claims of the TRS leaders, Laxman said, “The pink party has 15 seats in its kitty. What it has done so far to the state and what it can do, if it wins in 16 parliament seats in Telangana.” Contrary to it, BJP has brought AIIMS and several highway projects to the state with just one MP and asked people to think, what it can do, if it wins in 16 parliament seats. According to official estimation, Chowdary reportedly evaded tax for an amount of Rs 500 crore. During the primary investigation, the GST officials found that 8 to 9 shell companies which were working in Hyderabad have in- SUJANA MOVES HC OVER GST NOTICES LEGAL CORRESPONDENT Hyderabad: The Sujana Group of Companies, belonging to TDP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sujana Chowdary, approached the Telangana High Court against the notices served on their companies by GST authorities. There is a provision in the GST law that they can arrest a person who evade tax above Rs 5 crore. There are reports that a shell company director was arrested and sent him for 14-day judicial custody.
