Hyderabad: Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrashekar Rao will kickstart the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections with a public meeting in Karimnagar on March 17. The Chief Minister will launch the campaign from the Karimnagar Lok Sabha segment, which has sentiment attached to it. TRS leaders said the party president starts his programmes from Karimnagar as per vaastu as it is located at Ishanyam. The party is aiming to win 16 Plea in SC seeks ban on roadshows New Delhi: A former DGP of Uttar Pradesh and an environmentalist have urged the Supreme Court to direct the Election Commission to ban roadshows and bike rallies during polls, saying they violate EC's instructions and cause damage to the environment. The plea, filed by former DGP Vikram Singh and environmentalist Shaivika Agrawal, was mentioned for urgent listing on Monday before a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna. The bench, however, refused to accord urgent listing. In their plea, the petitioners have said roadshows and bike rallies during election period cause air and noise pollution and traffic jams which result in inconvenience to the general public. "Most roadshows involve star campaigners perched on the so-called raths. These royal raths are modiﬁed to accommodate all luxuries to have cabins, kitchen, toilets, hydraulic lifts, internet, TV, etc. These raths are very expensive and in excess to the election expenditure allowed by the EC. Further, VVIPs on the raths are vulnerable to terrorist attacks during campaign," it said. Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday prohibited the use of flex and other non-biodegradable materials for campaigning throughout the state ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice A K Jayasankaran Nambiar, gave the interim order while considering a plea seeking a ban on the use of flex.
