"When you tell one lie, you need to keep spinning out more lies, to cover up the first one. In her eagerness to defend the PM's Rafale lie, the RM (Raksha Mantri) lied to Parliament. Tomorrow, RM must place before Parliament documents showing Rs 1 Lakh crore of govt orders to HAL. Or resign," he tweeted. Rahul Gandhi questioned her over a report that said that India's leading defence PSU HAL is keenly awaiting formalisation of orders adding up to Rs 1 lakh crore mentioned by Sitharaman during the discussion on the Rafale fighter deal in the Lok Sabha . The report quoted a senior HAL management official as saying that no actual order had either been placed or a single rupee had been released to the company. Meanwhile, the Congress accused the Defence Minister and her senior colleagues of spinning a "web of lies" around the Rafale deal issue to hide the Prime Minister's "falsehood". A day after the government's defence in the Lok Sabha over the Rafale deal, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said: "The ministers in the court of this 'king' are lying, to hide the falsehood of the 'king'. The Defence Minister said lies. It is not her fault… her fault is that she's a minister in a court of a 'king', who has uttered such a huge lie. And to hide that lie, the entire cabinet is lying," Khera said. Sitharaman hits back, says Rahul misleading nation New Delhi: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has strongly hit back at Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for raising doubts over multi-crore contracts given to the Hindustan Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) saying “he should apologise for misleading the nation.” In her counter offensive, Sitharaman said it was a matter of “shame” that the Congress president was misleading the country on the issue. She also tweeted details of the contract awarded to HAL since 2014 when the BJP came to power. "Dear Shri @RahulGandhi , looks like you really need to start from ABCs. Someone like you who is hellbent on misleading the public will quote an article even before reading it," she tweeted. Modi putting spokes in AP’s wheel of growth: CM PM doesn’t like anyone questioning him, alleges Naidu OUR BUREAU Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu felt that there was growing political intolerance against the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre. Addressing the Janmabhoomi meeting at Punaadipau village in Krishna district, Naidu said the BJP wants to suppress the Muslims in the name of triple talaq and was taking steps to send Muslims to jails. The BJP was also harassing those who question Centre’s undemocratic functioning and was targeting those who were uniting against the NDA. Soon after Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and BSP leader Mayawati announced joining hands to fight the BJP in the 2019 general election, the Modi government ordered CBI raids on them. The BJP provoked violence in Kerala with political interests, he added. Naidu said the Prime Minister does not like anyone Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu administering the pledge to people at the Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru programme at Punadipaddu in Krishna district on Sunday questioning him. He only likes those who are subservient to him like YSRCP leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The Centre had transferred the CBI judge who was handling Jagan’s case when the hearing had reached a crucial stage and has intentionally handed over Jagan attack case to the NIA even without consulting the state government, the Chief Minister said. Since Andhra Pradesh had revolted against the Centre, the NDA government has been creating financial hurdles and levelling false alle- gations against the state government. “The Centre has now gone to the extent of imposing restrictions on his Davos tour and following his protest has made some halfhearted amendments, he said. Naidu said the state and Centre both have rights in cooperative federalism, but the Centre is using the concept of federalism as a slogan only. PLAN TO HAVE AIRPORT-LIKE-SECURITY AT STATIONS Rlys to close stations 20 mins ahead of departure New Delhi: The Indian Railways is planning to seal stations just like airports and passengers would have to arrive 20 minutes before the scheduled departure of trains to complete the process of security checks. The security plan – with high end technology – has already been put in motion at Allahabad, in anticipation of the Kumbh Mela which begins this month and at Hoobly railway station in Karnataka with a blueprint for 202 more stations ready for implementation, Railway Protection Force Director General Arun Kumar said. “The plan is to seal the railway stations. It is primarily about identifying openings and to determine how many can be closed. There are areas which will be closed through permanent boundary walls, others will be manned by RPF personnel and yet others will have collapsible gates. At each entry point there will be random security checks. However, unlike at airports, passengers need not come hours in advance, but just 15-20 minutes ahead of their departure times to ensure that they are not delayed because of the security process,” he said. Kumar said that while security will increase, presence of security personnel will not. “If we are inventing in technology, then manpower requirement will reduce,” he said. These steps are a part of a security plan under the Integrated Security System (ISS) which was approved in 2016 to strengthen surveillance mechanism at 202 railway stations. The ISS will comprise CCTV cameras, access control, personal and baggage screening system and bomb detection and disposal system which together provide multiple checking of passengers and baggage from the point of entry in the station premises till boarding of train. Modi also invoked "Telugu pride", alleging that Naidu betrayed Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder N T Rama Rao by joining hands with the Congress. "Telugu pride can only be restored when you (Naidu) put the interests of AP above your political interests and lust for power," the Prime Minister said. Continued on Page 15
