The youth, who was identified as G Srinivasa Rao from Mummidvaram mandal in East Godavair district, approached Jagan Mohan Reddy in the VIP lounge to serve tea to him and his supporters who were with him then, telling him that he adored him. He requested him to pose with him for a selfie to which the leader of the Opposition obliged. Srinivasa Rao then moved closer to him holding his phone in one hand and suddenly pulled out a knife from his pocket with his other hand and stabbed him in his shoulder. For a few seconds, his security staff remained stunned by the sudden development but quickly recovered their senses and overpowered Srinivas. They later handed him over to CISF commandant Dinesh Kumar who in turn surrendered him to the state police for further investigation. Continued on Page 15 Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said that he suspected the BJP was hatching a grand conspiracy to defeat him in the elections by imposing President’s rule in the state using, as an excuse, the law and problem that would be created with attacks like the one that took place on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at Visakhapatnam Airport on Thursday. Speaking to mediapersons here, Naidu said that helping the BJP in its game there were several leaders who had joined hands to deal a blow on the TDP regime in the state. He said it was unusual for Governor to call DGP of AP to learn about the details of the incident. The Governor is not supposed to short-circuit the constitutional practices and talk to officials directly. “This kind of activism by governors is unwarranted and uncalled for,” he said and demanded that a debate should take place at national level on the role of governors. Continued on Page 15 Security personnel detain two of the four persons who were seen outside the residence of CBI director Alok Verma for questioning, in New Delhi on Thursday 4 IB sleuths ‘snooping’ near CBI chief’s house caught New Delhi: In a dramatic development on Thursday, four Intelligence Bureau (IB) personnel were caught by the security staff of CBI Director Alok Verma outside his residence in the heart of Delhi, prompting the IB to say the men were on "routine patrol". The security staff of Verma, who was stripped off of his powers post-midnight on Tuesday, caught hold of the IB personnel who were seated in two parked cars outside the CBI Director's Janpath residence and dragged them into his house. Each IB operative was aught by at least two of Verma's guards -- in one case one man was held by his collar -and taken into Verma's bungalow and asked to reveal their identity. Minister for Human Resources Development Ganta Srinivas on Thursday released the schedule for the District Selection Committee and informed that the DSC notification would be released on Friday. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao speaking to the media said the School Education department had taken steps to announce the DSC and recruit the posts as early as possible. He said 4,341 Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasarao addressing a press conference after releasing the DSC schedule in Vijayawada on Thursday posts would be filled for school education, 909 posts in Model schools, 1,100 posts in Municipal schools, 800 posts in Tribal welfare schools, 175 in APREI Society schools and 350 posts in BC welfare schools. Continued on Page 15 Hyderabad/ Visakhapatnam: The officials of the Income-Tax (I-T) cracked down on the office of Navayuga Engineering Company Limited in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad and some other companies in Visakhapatnam in AP on Thursday. Nearly 20 members of the I-T team reached the Navayuga office at 8 am and started searches in the office. According to I-T sources, they seized several key documents along with hard disks and bank account statements. Officials sources said that the IT raids were conducted basing on the allegations that the company violated the guidelines of Registrar of Companies (RoC) and the violations in ﬁling the Income-Tax returns. The I-T ofﬁcials inquired about the 47 companies related to Navayuga and the ﬁnancial transactions of the companies. They also veriﬁed tax returns that were ﬁled for the last four years. The company was dealing with many projects in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other states of the country. The Navayuga Constructions company is presently dealing with construction of Polavaram irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh. As many as 37 startups from 14 nations competed for the 1 million US dollars prize money offered by the Andhra Pradesh government. Kovind made the remarks at the launch of a four-day global convention of the Arya Samaj where he praised the organisation for contributing towards ﬁnding a solution to various issues facing the country. "In India, the time for winter festivals has arrived. At present, people in Delhi are having trouble breathing due to the increasing pollution levels in the city. Such a situation greatly impacts the elderly and children," he said. "Social organisations need to create awareness among people about celebrating all festivals in such a way that it does not affect the environment, and peace and brotherhood," he said. He hoped that the Arya Samaj will ﬁnd alternatives to non-renewable energy and contribute toward protecting the environment. Kovind said the convention would discuss ways to tackle superstitions, needs and challenges of the future, women empowerment, tribal welfare and preservation of the environment.
