In his inaugural speech at the two-day national executive of the BJP, he accused the Congress of aligning with forces that want to "break" India while his party was focussed on "making" India. He gave the message that the party was keen to win the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram to which list has been added Telangana, where the Assembly has been dissolved. "The talk of mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) is eyewash based on falsehood. It is not going to make any difference in 2019 because we have fought against each and every opposition party in 2014. We are not bothered about it," Shah was quoted as saying by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who briefed the media on the presidential speech. Shah urged party workers not to be complacent because of the continuous electoral successes since 2014 and to reach out to the people with a clear-cut message that BJP was not at all worried about the opposition ganging up against the party. Shah said the party was in power already in 19 states where it was sure of doing well in the Lok Sabha elections. "West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana and other states where the BJP was in second position in 2014, we need to take advantage of antiincumbency there. Continued on Page 4 Hyderabad: TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday indicated that whatever political alliance that would emerge during the ensuing Assembly elections in Telangana would form the basis for taking on the BJP at the national level during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Addressing party leaders and workers at the NTR Trust Bhavan, Naidu minced no words in saying that people should think in broader terms and see how the BJP-led Central government was trying to indulge in vindictive politics and was trying to drive a wedge between the people of two Telugu-speaking states. “They ditched the people of Andhra Pradesh and failed to fulfil the promises made in the AP State Reorganisation Act. Now, they are trying to encourage TRS to see that they succeed in retaining power in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. PM Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah are implementing the policy of divide and rule,” Naidu said and called upon the people to understand the real game plan of the BJP. The AP CM also threw hints that it may not be possible for him to come for campaign and asked the rank and file to lead the Political events outpace time TDP PLANS EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE TO TRS OUR BUREAU CONG CLEARS DS, KONDA COUPLE & TWO OTHERS P4 `1,200-cr MLM scheme run by school dropout busted OUR BUREAU ON CLP LEADER JOINING TRS OVER POWER CRISIS PROVE OR APOLOGISE, JANA REDDY TELLS KCR OUR BUREAU Hyderabad: Former leader of opposition in Assembly K Jana Reddy on Saturday challenged the caretaker Chief Minister to prove his remarks against him about “joining TRS” or tender apology. Speaking to the media here on Saturday, he said one of the constitutional organisations of the Centre would serve the notice to the Chief Minister to create troubles as part of the Operation Garuda. Stating that the Operation Garuda has taken a new turn, Sivaji asserted, “I received a phone call from a very important source. As Sivaji per the information, a constitutional body of the Union government would serve a notice on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.” The Operation Garuda is ready to pounce on the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the actor said, party on their own in the state. He said he was busy striving to develop Andhra Pradesh and hence he cannot come to Telangana as Chief Minister of AP. Referring to a comment made by film actor Sivaji, who said that the Centre would send notices to him on Monday, Naidu said he would not be cowed down by such threats. The TRS and people of Telangana should be cautious as the BJP under the present leadership has the tendency to make promises and never implement them. It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister was not behaving like a statesman. He should have learnt lessons from Vajpayee. He should learn to show tolerance towards all parties and sections of the people. Naidu said even some of the important leaders who left the TDP after 2014 elections are now willing to come back to the party fold and expressed regret for taking a wrong decision. The party should accept them and work to rebuild the TDP into a major force, he added. Interestingly, Naidu was very careful and did not either refer to KCR or TRS directly nor did he make any comments criticising them indicating that his fight was against the BJP at the Centre and it was not a local fight. adding that not only the state but also future generations would get damaged due to this operation. The actor expressed concern over the plans against the Chief Minister. They targeted the CM with the sole aim of damaging the interests of the state, he lamented. The ruling BJP has already prepared plans to remove Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu from politics, he said. Sivaji alleged that the national party was politicising everything to serve its own interests in an undemocratic manner. He asked the leadership of the national party whether it was necessary to suppress the political leaders and the parties in the name of politics. The actor also asked the national party whether they would attack anyone if they questioned the Centre. The BJP leaders were behaving like terrorists, he said and added that without according special status to the State how they would face the people. He said the special status is important to the development of the state. He said he would react similarly even if the Centre plans similar action against YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy. He reiterated that he has threat to his life from some political parties. He also took strong objection to the arrest of writer Varavara Rao. Hyderabad: Even as Telugu Desam Party is preparing to have an alliance with its ageold rival Congress, flames of dissidence spewed up in the TRS on Saturday, an inevitable fallout of KCR's swashbuckling gesture of announcing first list of names of 105 candidates at one go for the Assembly elections. While TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu discussed formation of an effective alternative to the TRS in the state with Telangana TDP leaders and advised them to mobilise all opposition parties for launching a frontal attack on the TRS, the Congress seniors held meetings during the day on ways to lure back the leaders who had migrated to other parties but were left out at the time of reckoning. Administering a jolt to the BJP, its leader Nandiswar Goud left the saffron party and returned to the Congress. He contested as Congress nominee in 2014 from Patancheru but finished third in the race. TRS candidate G Mahipal Reddy won the seat while TDP candidate ended as runner up. Later, Goud joined the BJP but with the Congress offering Patancheru, he announced his resignation to BJP and was closeted with TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and others. Though it was expected Naidu might meet Uttam Kumar Reddy, the meeting did not take place. At the TDP core committee meeting and at the party meeting at NTR Trust Bhavan later, Naidu underscored the need to defeat the BJP's designs both in AP and Telangana. The Telugu Desam is likely to drive a hard bargain for at least 25 to 30 seats with the Congress. The day also witnessed party senior leader Jana Reddy taking KCR on saying that he had never said he would wear TRS upper-cloth (kanduva) and campaign for the party if KCR improves power supply situation in the state. Meanwhile, the day witnessed a wave of dissidence spreading far and wide in the TRS after the announcement of the first list on Sept 6. Those who could not make the cut did not hide their displeasure over the way they had been left out in the cold. Continued on Page 4
