KTR launches DRF Exclusive enforcement wing to deal with emergencies OUR BUREAU Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao at the launch of the GHMC Enforcement Vigilance Disaster Management’s Disaster Response Force wing in Hyderabad on Saturday Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao launched the Disaster Response Force (DRF) comprising 120 members here on Saturday. The DRF will act swiftly in emergencies such as ﬁre mishaps, submergence during rains and building collapses under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. The DRF will function under the Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) wing of the corporation. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said Hyderabad is the only city in the country to have a dedicated DRF to tackle disasters in the corporation limits. Taking serious note of the building collapse at Nanakramguda area killing 8 people, he said the government has come up with the idea of establishing an exclusive disaster force to deal with such incidents in the city. The meeting of the working committee, the party's highest decision-making body, was attended by top party leaders including former prime minister Manmohan Singh, A K Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ahmed Patel and Ashok Gehlot. However, former party president Sonia Gandhi was unable to at- tend the meeting. This is the second meeting of the newly constituted CWC under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. GHMC gets makeover to become citizen-friendly OUR BUREAU Hyderabad: To make the civic administration reach people’s doorsteps, Telangana state government has reorganised the entire Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The total number of zonal ofﬁces have been increased to 12 from 6 and the circle offices will be 48 from the present 30. While, the zones will also be increased to 6 from 5 in the corporation limits. After the revamp, every two assembly constituencies will come under a single zone. The total number of Assembly constituencies in the GHMC limits is 24 covering the parts of old Rangareddy, Medak and Mahbubnagar districts. To meet the required manpower in the new zones and circles, the government sanctioned 1,610 posts. Principal Secretary to Municipal Administration and Urban Development Arvind Kumar said that it is decided to create 12 zonal offices so that there is one zone with a coterminous jurisdiction for every two Assembly constituencies. This will enable elected body representatives to work closely l Zonal offices: 12 from 6 l Circle offices: 48 from 30 l Zones: 6 from 5 l 1 zone for 2 Assembly constituencies l 24 Assembly constituencies in GHMC limits l 1,610 new posts sanctioned with the zonal team and it will yield better coordinated development results. Each zone will have 4 circles. The official said that the new 1,610 posts will be ﬁlled soon and Rs 146.86 crore will be allocated additionally from the GHMC funds to meet the expenditure to run the newly-created zones and circles every year. Arvind Kumar said that one more new zone is created in addition to the existing ﬁve zones by adjusting the existing staff of the corporation in view of urgency to rationalise administration for better efficacy.
