According to information reaching here, all the victims were from Odisha. A few more labourers who were injured were rushed to a hospital. SC junks plea on cesarean deliveries New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking laying down of guidelines on how the procedure for cesarean deliveries has to be conducted in hospitals, saying the petition was an abuse of process of law. A bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi also slapped a cost of Rs 25,000 on the petitioner and directed him to deposit the amount within four weeks with the Supreme Court Bar Association. “What is that you want? How much cost will you pay, you tell us? You want the court to lay down guidelines as to how cesarean deliveries have to be done? Continued on P4 WANTED: FINANCIAL EXPERTS Consultants’ crunch hits implementation of govt programmes New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday declined to interfere with a Delhi High Court order granting bail to Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union minister P Chidambaram, for alleged financial irregularities in the INX Media case. When it comes to the question of liberty, the courts do not go into technicality, the bench said. The bench said it is not interfering with the bail granted to Karti but was leaving the question of law open -on whether he can approach the high court when his application for bail was already pending before the trial court. Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday afternoon in New Delhi. The Chief Minister left for national capital on Friday morning. During the meeting, KCR will request the Prime Minister to give approval and clearance to the newly-created zonal system in the Telangana state. He will brief Modi in detail about the necessity of new zones. He will also bring to the notice of PM the longpending division of High Court and request to expedite the division of court. The petition was filed by Reepak Kansal, who had alleged “flagrant violations and abuse of health norms” due to a lack of policy and claimed that several private hospitals and maternity homes often conduct unnecessary C-section deliveries to make money. Kansal also said that the World Health Organisation recommends caesarean section to be performed only when it becomes a medical necessity. He claimed there are numerous instances in India where Csections are performed without medical reasons by private hospitals with an intention to make money. His petition also claimed that a Csection delivery involves an extended stay in the hospital as compared to normal childbirth.
