S P11 Munoth Industries setting up `800-cr plant in Tirupati; Foundation stone in July 1st week Hyderabad: In a development which will give further boost to the electronics and mobile manufacturing industry in Andhra Pradesh, Munoth Industries Limited is setting up the country’s ﬁrst lithium ion cell production unit in the temple town of Tirupati, with an investment of Rs 800 crore. The manufacturing facility for which founda- tion stone is scheduled to be laid in the ﬁrst week of July, will come up in three phases. The company will invest Rs 165 crore in the ﬁrst phase for producing lithium ion cells which are widely used in mobile handsets. The cells which will come with a storage capacity of 200,000 Ah (Ampere hour) per day will be made available for mobile handset makers from early next year. Continued on P4 New Delhi: Nirav Modi, who is at the centre of a money laundering case linked to over USD 2 billion Punjab National Bank fraud, has fled to the UK where the absconding diamantaire sought asylum claiming "political persecution" back home, according to a media report on Monday. Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate for allegedly cheating the PNB, the country's second largest lender, to the tune of more than USD 2 billion. The duo and others are also being probed by other central agencies after the fraud came to light this year following a complaint by the PNB that they allegedly cheated the nationalised bank to the tune of over Rs 13,000 crore, with the purported involvement of a few employees of the bank.
