She was 95. Britain's Holocaust Educational Trust says Turgel dedicated her life to sharing her story of surviving the Jewish ghetto in Krakow, Poland and the German Nazi camps at Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Bergen-Belsen. It was in a hospital at BergenBelsen that Turgel cared for Anne Frank as the teenager was dying of typhus. She once told the BBC: "I washed her face, gave her water to drink, and I can still see that face, her hair and how she looked." BJP’s internal survey finds its position precarious in 152 of 282 seats it won in 2014 SURVEY SHOCK FOR BJP New Delhi: The results of an internal survey have come as a shocker for the ruling BJP. The BJP survey shows that of the 282 seats the party had won in 2014, there is a strong anti-incumbency sentiment in at least 152 parliamentary constituencies. According to highly-placed sources in the BJP, the party had commissioned an internal survey on all the seats it had won in 2014. According to a BJP strategist, the survey was completed just before Gujarat went to the polls last year. Dainik Bhaskar has access to the report of the survey. Sources say that as a matter of abundant precaution, the party has started work on the second phase of the survey. In this phase, alternative candidates and measures to improve the party’s prospects in constituencies where it is facing anti-incumbency will be explored. For the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Modi-Shah duo may choose to go for the new India-young India electoral template. Fresh faces may do the trick In the municipal elections in Delhi, the party’s experiment of fielding new and young faces instead of the incumbent councillors had paid dividends. Likewise, in the last few assembly elections, the party had denied tickets to sitting legislators in constituencies where it was facing an antiincumbency wave. And this strategy too had paid off. Third line of leadership The BJP high command and the Sangh Parivar have now started working on a long-term strategy for building a third line Strategist-in-chief Amit Shah looking for ways to make good the likely losses by winning more seats from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Odisha, where the BJP had fared badly, according to a report published in DB Post BJP feels that there is an anti-incumbency mood against Naveen Patnaik of Biju Janata Dal in Odisha, Mamata Banerjee of TMC in West Bengal, TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh and TRS’ K Chandrashekhar Rao in Telangana, which can be used to the party’s advantage. of leadership. The strategy was discussed at a meeting of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and top Sangh leader Bhaiyaji Joshi with party president Amit Shah at Ujjain recently. Now the BJP has decided to adopt some stringent criteria for the 2019 elections. Discussions are on whether candidates older than 75 years will be considered for candidacy. 75-plus yardstick is adopted If the party decided to deny tickets to 75-plus leader, it mat affect LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalraj Mishra, Sumitra Mahajan, BC Khanduri, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari etc. Party to field Modi from Puri In 2019, an important part of the BJP strategy will be to focus on 105 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and West Bengal. Despite the Modi JEWELS OF LORD VENKATESWARA Seers seek probe by apex court Judge Tirupati: A meeting of heads of Hindu religious institutions held here on Saturday demanded the government to set up a committee headed by a sitting Supreme Court judge for the verification of the jewels of Lord Venkateswara temple, Tirumala to dispel the doubts raised on the safety of the jewels. The Swamijis had in-depth discussion on various issues relating to the temples, measures to be taken up for the rejuvenation of the temples and other aspects like hereditary temple services. S P5 Modi-Xi take Wuhan spirit forward Qingdao: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping on Saturday agreed to take their April meeting in Wuhan as a new starting point to promote bilateral relations. The two leaders reached the consensus during a meeting in the coastal Chinese city of Qingdao ahead of the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. Continued on P4 wave, the BJP could win only six of the 105 seats in these states. The party has now set its eyes on winning 80 seats from these states in 2019. Except for Odisha, BJP’s organisational structure is weak in the other three states. That is why, Shah’s strategy is to capitalise on Modi’s popularity. It is believed that the BJP is working on the strategy to make Modi contest from Puri Lok Sabha seat along with Varanasi in 2019. On April 15, 2017, when the Prime Minister met the party’s Odisha unit leaders at the BJP’s national executive meeting, they proposed that Modi should contest from Puri. Modi’s rally at Cuttack to celebrate four years of the BJP government was also linked to this. Nothing decided thus far: Shah When Amit Shah was asked about this, he said that the party has not decided this way or that thus far. The Prime Minister visiting a certain place should not be construed as him contesting elections from there. What is the strategy? According to sources, Shah has been working for the past three months on the strategy to increase the party’s seats tally in Andhra, Telangana, Odisha and West Bengal. The party feels that there is an anti-incumbency mood against Naveen Patnaik of Biju Janata Dal in Odisha, Mamata Banerjee of TMC in West Bengal, TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh and TRS’ K Chandrashekhar Rao in Telangana, which can be used to the party’s advantage. (Courtesy: DB Post) Naidu trashes Oppn chargesheet against govt S Illegal wealth of Jagan must be auctioned: Naidu S YSRCP’s allegations against government are false S Diaphragm wall of Polavaram completed S New ‘single woman pension scheme’ soon OUR BUREAU Amaravati: Lambasting the YSRCP leaders for the chargesheet against the four-year rule of the TDP government, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said there was nothing true in the allegations. Naidu said all the leaders who were criticising his government now are the accused in several money-laundering and corruption cases. Their properties also must be auctioned like that of the Agri Gold’s properties, he said in a press conference at the secretariat on Saturday. Comparing YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy with money launderers like Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and others, Naidu said the YSRCP president was more corrupt and dangerous than them. The Opposition party has been lodging only false corruption cases against the government for the sake of political mileage but not producing even a single evidence to substantiate them, he added. Urging the people not to believe YSRCP’s misleading statements, Chandrababu Naidu accused Jagan of purposefully causing delays in the courts regarding his pending cases to get more time. He added that the illegally-amassed wealth of more than Rs 43,000 crore of Jagan should be auctioned through the courts like the state government had auctioned the Agri Gold properties. The Chief Minister questioned Jagan as to “why doesn’t the same law applicable for auctioning your properties? Is there any separate law for you? Why don’t you support courts?” Naidu said the IAS officials, industrialists and politicians were sent to jails because of corruption of Jagan. Questioning the credibility and experience of Jagan in governance and administration, Naidu said the state will be ruined if he was given a chance to come into power. He urged the public to vote in favour of the TDP as it is a historical need for the state. The public believed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and gave the power, but he gave strong stroke to the economy from which the country was unable to overcome till date, Naidu said. By using his five MPs, Jagan was trying to collude with the BJP to escape from the pending CBI and ED cases against him, Naidu said. Continued on P4
