Siddipet: Tahreek Urdu Telangana (TUT) appealed to Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao to take steps to start Urdu medium classes for BA and B Sc students at Siddipet Government Degree College. In a letter to the Minister, TUT’s Siddipet unit girls’ wing chief Syeda Sana Kousar requested Harish Rao to start degree classes in Urdu medium at the town’s Government Degree College. She said that Urdu medium students after completing Intermediate in the town were facing difficulty due to non-availability of Urdu medium at the degree college. Since the registrations for admissions via Degree Online Service of Telangana (DOST) had already started, the State government should take necessary measures to include Urdu medium at the Siddipet Degree College which will help scores of students in the district, Ms Kousar wrote. Earlier also TUT Chief Khan Zia brought the issue to the notice of the Minister but no concrete step was taken in this regard. Khan Zia said due the absence of Urdu medium, students are either forced to travel as long as Karimnagar or other towns for graduation or they drop out all together. If the government starts Urdu medium section at the Siddipet Degree College, then it will be huge relief to the girl students, Mr Zia added. Tahreek Urdu Telangana is a voluntary organisation established in 1991 by Khan Zia in Karimnagar. TUT been striving for the promotion of Urdu language since its inception in the erstwhile AP.
