Several companies including diversiﬁed Adani Group, signed 77 MoUs with the Andhra Pradesh government on the ﬁrst day of the three-day investment conclave, entailing total investments of around Rs 31,500 crore. The new agreements are expected to generate 98,200 jobs. Continued on Page 4 New Delhi: Beginning March 1, seven judges of the Supreme Court will retire this year, even as the apex court is already short of six judges and a recommendation for appointing two judges is pending with the government. On March 1, Justice Amitava Roy will demit office, followed by Justice Rajesh Agrawal on May 4, according to the websites of the Supreme Court and the Law ministry. Friday was the last working day for Justice Roy as the top court will reopen on March 5 after the Holi break. Justice J Chalameswar, the senior-most judge of the top court after the Chief Justice of India, will retire on June 22, followed by Justice Adarsh Goel on July 6, the websites said. CJI Dipak Misra will himself demit office on October 2, followed by Justice Kurian Joseph on November 29 and Justice Madan B Lokur on December 30. The string of retirements and a shortage of six judges will put pressure on the collegium to nominate names and the government to make appointments at a faster pace. The Supreme Court collegium had last month sent to the government the names of senior advocate Indu Malhotra and Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice K M Joseph for their appointment as judges of the apex court. The government is yet to take a call on the recommendations. S FULL REPORT: P12 New Delhi: Close on the heels of a massive Rs 11,300 crore PNB scam, three fresh ﬁnancial frauds have come to light, including the alleged involvement of a Delhibased jeweller, who has been accused of defrauding the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) to the tune of about Rs 390 crore through Letters of Credit (LoC). Using the same modus operandi as the one used by celebrity jeweller Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi to get LoC from PNB, the accused involved in the OBC fraud with the help of some bank officials. The fresh exposure provided Congress president Rahul Gandhi an opportunity to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, these promoters have also disappeared while the government looked the other way. "Under Modiji's 'Jan-Dhan Loot Yojana', another scam! 390 crore, involving a Delhi-based jeweller. Same Modus operandi as Nirav Modi. Fake LoUs," wrote Gandhi in Twitter. Continued on Page 4 Passports of Nirav, Choksi revoked New Delhi: The passports of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi — the prime accused in the PNB fraud — have been revoked, External Affairs Ministry sources said. On the advice of the ED, the ministry had suspended the validity of their passports for a period of four weeks on February 16 and given one week's time to them to respond. "Since they have not responded so far, their passports have been revoked," a senior ministry source said.
