The encounter began early last morning after two militants made a failed attempt to attack a CRPF camp. Alert guards thwarted the attack forcing the militants to flee. Security forces comprising Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF then tracked down the militants and engaged them in a gun battle. Tanker blast kills 5 at Cochin Shipyard Kochi: At least five people have been killed and 10 injured after a blast occurred in an ONGC tanker in Kerala's Cochin Shipyard.The blast took place after an ONGC tanker was brought to the shipyard for maintenance. Police and fire tenders have reached the site of accident. Those working at the time of the blast mostly included daily labourers and contract workers. Recognising the efficiency and performance of the state police wing, Centrallyfunded defence and research and other establishments in Hyderabad have sought the Telangana SSPF (Telangana State Special Protection Force) expertise to strengthen security on their premises. The TSSPF is a specialised police force which undergoes rigorous training in all aspects, including firing, use of advanced technology in the maintenance of security of all sensitive establishments and also regular physical training against all challenges. The SPF undergoes training in 10 battalions in Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Adilabad, Khammam, Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts. Generally, during the emergencies, the forces are being used to maintain law and order in coordination with local police. The Centre is also proposing changes in the CrPC and to declare such men 'absconders' if they fail to appear in the court after three summons. According to reports, the MEA has written to the Home ministry and the Law ministry to consider the proposed amendments. Continued on P4 100 e-buses to ply on Hyd roads soon K CHANDRASEKHAR Hyderabad: Very soon one would get to travel in electric buses (ebuses) in Hyderabad, thanks to the subsidy announced by the Union Government in the recent budget. The Centre has proposed to provide 100 buses with 60 per cent of the cost as subsidy. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation had recently operated battery-enabled e-bus with 324 kw of power to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad for a month on an experimental basis with the help of a company which manufac- ning. By the way, only four out of the 49 on the list are women: in Angola, Australia, Chile and the Netherlands. SCS by April 6 or we’ll quit, Jagan ultimatum to NDA govt OUR BUREAU Nellore: Increasing heat on the Centre, YSRC president YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday announced that all his MPs would resign on April 6 if NDA does not bestow special category status (SCS) by then. Jaganmohan Reddy has already announced his party’s programme of action to press for special category status which would be his party MPs’ battle cry in Parliament. Addressing a public meeting at Kaligiri in Nellore district during his padayatra, the YSRC chief said: "If SCS is not given to our state by April 5, our MPs will quit the next day. Status is our life, elixir for many problems which the state is facing after bifurcation.” He said that the MPs would continue protests during the budget session in both the Houses of Parliament for one full month and submit their resignations the following day if the Centre remains quiet on the demand for SCS. At a high-level meeting on Monday night, the YSRC chief had announced that party workers would stage protests at Collectors’ offices in the state on March 1 besides a dharna at the CM’s office in Vijayawada. This would be followed by a dharna by MPs, MLAs and other important leaders at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on March 5.
