S P11 Ranchi: RJD chief Lalu Prasad was on Saturday sentenced to three-and-a-half years in jail and fined Rs 10 lakh by a special CBI court in a fodder scam case relating to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from the Deoghar Treasury 21 years ago. The punishment was handed down to 69-year-old Prasad by CBI court judge Shiv Pal Singh through videoconferencing since the RJD leader is lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail after being convicted in the case on December 23, CBI counsel Rakesh Prasad said. This is the second time that he has been jailed in the fodder scam. Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modi welcomed the judgment. “Conviction is conviction. Either 3.5 yrs or 7 yrs. Our charge against Lalu has been vindicated by court,” he said on Twitter. He also refuted the charges that Lalu was targeted by the government. OUR BUREAU Hyderabad: Congress president Rahul Gandhi has decided to continue the existing presidents of Pradesh Congress Committees of all states and issued orders to this effect on Saturday. A communiqué sent to the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee from AICC has stated, “Congress president Rahul Gandhi has taken a decision that the presidents of all Pradesh Congress Committees, Regional Congress Committees and Territorial Congress Committees will continue in their posts after the organizational elections also, unless some decision is taken to replace them.” This means that there would be no changes in the presidents of the PCC in all the states and changes may take place in executive committees of the states. The exercise might be taken up in the third week of this month. With this, president of Telangana PCC N Uttam Kumar Reddy would also continue in his post. Uttam was appointed PCC president in 2014 and the three-year term ended last year itself. Several senior leaders have thrown their gauntlets into the ring for the post expecting changes in PCCs. The four personnel belonging to Indian Reserve Police-3rd battalion were on law and order duty in the township in north Kashmir, 50 km from here, when the IED planted by militants in the market, which was shut due to a separatist sponsored strike, went off, police said. Meanwhile, Endowment Department Commissioner Anuradha was given additional charge as EO of Durga Temple. After going through the report submitted by the enquiry committee on the allegations of entering unauthorised persons into sanctum sanctorum of the temple and performing tantric puja on December 26, 2017, the Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of Surya Kumari. Chandrababu Naidu observed that the EO had failed to prevent unauthorised persons into the temple.
